Thanks for checking out The Silent Camper...

I'm SQ, the mildly eccentric and overly caffeinated silent camper.

What can I say... At a very young age, I found myself being hooked on camping, mainly due to my dad being a scout leader. By the age of 10, I could read a map, navigate and had started to have my own adventures in the great outdoors. 

This love of hiking and camping continued throughout my adult life until in 2015, I unexpectedly became deaf overnight. No warning or symptoms, I literally went to bed being able to hear normally and woke up almost completely deaf. I was devastated! 

Two days later I gave up my career of 30 years (that I loved), and withdrew from social life, suffering with anxiety and depression. Like so many others, I literally suffered in silence. 

Then in 2020, amid the Covid-19 pandemic, I found inspiration watching others on YouTube, and started planning my own new walks and wild camping adventures, although it would be another two years until I finally got enough confidence to venture out. 

So, if you're into backpacking or wild camping, up for a laugh and want to see a grown man (almost) making a fool of himself on the side of a mountain, then I hope you'll join me on my YouTube channel, where you can watch videos of my new outdoor adventures. 

... and where I hope to inspire others who are suffering with mental health to have their own adventures out on the trail.
